2017 Washington Business Hall of Fame Laureates Honored at Laureate Luncheon

On Tuesday, August 22, the 2017 Washington Business Hall of Fame Laureates gathered at JA Finance Park® to get to know one another prior to the gala and awards ceremony in November. 

This event takes place annually as an opportunity for the forthcoming laureates to get to know each other before taking the stage together on November 29. The event was attended by several former laureates as well as JA of Greater Washington Board Members.

Labor Day Blues: Three-in-Four Parents and Teens Concerned Global Competition and Automation will make it Difficult for Next Generation to Have a Successful Job/Career

A new survey from Junior Achievement USA (JA) shows that 77 percent of parents are “concerned” about their children’s ability to have a successful job or career as adults in light of global competition and automation. The same percentage (77%) of teens said they share similar concerns about having a successful job or career in the future because of global competition and automation. The survey of 1,204 parents of school-aged students and 1,000 teens was conducted by ORC International for JA.

Pepco and Washington Gas have joined forces to expand their partnership with Junior Achievement of Greater Washington. 

In addition to serving as the Home Utilities Storefront Partner at JA Finance Park® Prince George’s County, Pepco and Washington Gas will now do the same at JA's forthcoming JA Finance Park in Montgomery County.

NFEC: Back-to-School Survey: Young Adults in 49 States Agree - Financial Literacy Offers More Benefits than Other High School Subjects

Young Americans aged 18 to 24 in 49 out of 50 states across the country agree that financial literacy is the study topic that would benefit their lives more than other high school courses. In a survey conducted between July 15th and 17th 2017 the National Financial Educators Council asked 5,123 young adults, "What high school-level course would benefit your life the most?" Respondents chose money management more often than math, science, and social studies:

49.97% selected "Money Management (Personal Finance)"
18.25% selected "Mathematics (Algebra, Geometry)"
14.43% selected "Social Studies (History, Government)"
17.35% selected "Science (Biology, Chemistry)"

Team "Clear Solutions" Wins 2nd Annual JA Entrepreneurship Summit Pitch Competition

On Wednesday, August 9, 2017, team "Clear Solutions," composed of young entrepreneurs from across the region, won first place in the 2nd annual JA Entrepreneurship Summit Pitch Competition.

Team "Clear Solutions" was comprised of nine students from all across the DMV region, with a wide range of both ideas and strengths. Led by volunteer mentor James "TaB" Patrick, the members of team "Clear Solutions" included Ethan Forester, Kendrick Groman, Josemari Roque, Bennett Scheer, Sarika Sindhwani, Don Tran, Kalvin Vannavong-Indasom, Paolo Vicencio, and Porter Wallington.
