Today, Junior Achievement of Greater Washington is excited to announce the launch of the first ever JA Bowl-A-Thon pop-up digital raffle. 

This pop-up contest will run through June 15 and anyone may participate. So whether you've bowled, volunteered in the classroom or at one of our region's JA Finance Park® facilities, or just thought about getting involved in the future, this is an opportunity for you to inspire the next generation with the financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship skills to thrive in the future.

Nearly 9,000 middle school students have learned lessons this year that will help them finance cars and balance their budgets later in life, thanks to an educational branch of PenFed Credit Union at Maryland’s first Junior Achievement Finance Park®. “Someday these middle school students will run our businesses and change our world,” PenFed Credit Union President and CEO James Schenck told the board of directors of Junior Achievement of Greater Washington during a luncheon celebrating the first year of the JA Finance Park in Prince George’s County. “But first, these students are learning valuable life skills right here.”

On May 5th, we sent students from Eastern High School in Washington, D.C. to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. This was just one of many JA Job Shadow™ experiences we have coordinated with different organizations in the region. Among the students participating in the Job Shadow was Akilah Johnson, the National Winner of the 2015 Doodle4Google contest. Akilah impressed the contest judges as well as people around the world with her vibrant, artistic talent, and powerful, socially relevant content.

This year’s group comprises Diane Hoskins, co-CEO of architecture firm Gensler;Tony Nicely, chairman and CEO of Geico; Kenneth Samet, president and CEO of MedStar Health; and Gary Tabach, managing partner of Greater Washington of Deloitte & Touche LLP.

The American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) and Junior Achievement USA today announced the launch of a new online Accounting Career Guide for teens. The Guide, which combines Junior Achievement content with resources from AICPA's "Start Here. Go Places," covers the various career paths and opportunities available in the accounting profession, with special emphasis on the work CPAs perform.
