The Safeway Foundation to serve as Grocery Storefront partner at forthcoming JA Finance Park® Montgomery County

JA of Greater Washington is proud to announce that it will be partnering with The Safeway Foundation to fulfill a Storefront Partnership at the forthcoming JA Finance Park Montgomery County.

Many young people don't yet have a concept of how expensive it can be to feed a family. As the Grocery Storefront partner at JA Finance Park Montgomery County, The Safeway Foundation will play a critical role in challenging students to think about their spending decisions and how they will balance weeknight meals and the inevitable last-minute trips to the grocery store.

The Safeway Foundation Grocery Storefront will be just one piece of the overall JA Finance Park simulation in which students will put their newly-learned budgeting skills to the test in a digital, 21st century learning environment. Students will navigate the “mini-city” inside the Park, visiting over 20 different storefronts and kiosks that each correlate to a different budget line the student must account for during their visit.

“The Safeway Foundation is proud to support educational programs in the communities we serve. We are pleased to partner with Junior Achievement in teaching students how to make responsible financial decisions, especially as it relates to budgeting for family groceries,” said Christy Duncan Anderson, Executive Director of the Safeway Foundation.

JA Finance Park Montgomery County is scheduled to open in 2018 on the fourth floor of the new Thomas Edison High School of Technology building in Wheaton, Maryland.
