Junior Achievement of Greater Washington’s Ed Grenier Announces Plans to Retire

Led Transformation of Youth Development Nonprofit in Tenure Spanning Three Decades

Washington, DC – Ed Grenier, President and CEO of Junior Achievement of Greater Washington since 1996, announced that he will be retiring from the organization in December 2024. As part of the transition, he will be stepping back from his day-to-day role as CEO of the organization, effective April 17, 2024, and assuming the position of CEO Emeritus to lead strategic initiatives, including fundraising projects, during his remaining tenure with the organization. Lynne Ford, who serves on the JA of Greater Washington board of directors, will assume the role of interim CEO while the search for Mr. Grenier’s successor begins.

“My time with Junior Achievement has been the highlight of my career,” said Grenier. “I feel privileged to have positively impacted so many young people during my time at JA. This wasn’t an easy decision but given how much we’ve accomplished as an organization and how JA of Greater Washington is positioned for the future; this is the right time.”

“Over the past three decades, Ed has been a transformative leader for Junior Achievement of Greater Washington,” added Ford. “It won’t be easy finding a successor, and we anticipate the search will be a lengthy process. Fortunately, in this CEO Emeritus role, we will continue to benefit from Ed’s vision and experience as he works to finalize important projects on behalf of the organization.”

During the past 28 years, Ed Grenier’s accomplishments have included:

  • Leading initiatives that reached more than 1 million students across Greater Washington.

  • Developing the first of their kind public-private partnerships with the nation’s leading K-12 school systems.

  • The building of three JA Finance Park experiential learning facilities across Greater Washington, which have taught over 1 million students the importance of sound personal financial management.

  • Growing the Washington Business Hall of Fame into the Region’s signature event, honoring the best in business to inspire the next generation of leaders while raising $29 million over the past 28 years.

  • Driving exponential organizational growth to give life-changing learning experiences to over 40,000 youth annually across the Greater Washington region.

  • Leading JA USA’s expanded 3DE pilot in Greater Washington to bring JA’s transformative high school educational model to some of the most under-resourced schools in the Region.
